The story of Aladdin starts with Jafar, Grand Vizier to the Sultan of Agrabah. In his search for unlimited power he and his parrot search the caves of wonder looking for a mystical lamp that is said to give the owner three wishes. While search Jafar learns that only the metaphorical "Diamond in the Rough" can enter the cave. The Diamond in the rough is a metaphor describing a person of lower means like a peasant.
Meanwhile, Princess Jasmine the Sultan's daughter being frustrated with always having to stay in the palace and having others live her life for her. This pertains that the order given to her from her father the Sultan that she must marry a Prince escapes from the palace and goes to Agrabah's marketplace. While at the marketplace she runs into the street urchin Aladdin and his monkey, Abu. Jafar on the other hand finds out that Aladdin is the diamond in the rough that he is looking for and has Aladdin arrested. Jasmine does not like this and orders for his release, but Jafar lies and tells Jasmine that Aladdin is dead.
Jafar takes Aladdin to the cave of wonders to retrieve the genie lamp. Aladdin obtains the lamp but his monkey tries to take diamonds that are in the cave. This is forbidden and the cave begins to crumble. A magic carpet that is in the cave swoops Aladdin out as Jafar takes the lamp from Aladdin. But the monkey bites Jafar and takes the lamp back and the carpet and Aladdin swoop back in the cave with the lamp as the cave crumbles behind them, leaving Jafar on the outside unable to reach Aladdin. This is where the story get interesting.
